Capen’s classmate Annabel Wallace wrote “Sweet Memories” based on Capen’s concept for the show, which features songs from popular musicals. Capen both performs in and directs the show, which centers around three Sweet Briar students who confront the challenges of college life. They learn to deal with their problems and grow into “Sweet Briar Roses,” ready to leave the sheltered campus life and take on the real world.

Capen says “Sweet Memories” reviews the ups and downs of her four years at the College, and reflects on how she and her friends found each other.

When the College announced it would be closing Aug. 25, rehearsals took on greater poignancy.

“I came up with the idea for this show as my personal goodbye to Sweet Briar,” she says. “After the announcement that the school would close, the whole show felt different because it was no longer just my farewell, but everyone’s. The first rehearsal was the hardest. I’ve had a cast member cry every night since. But we are all so excited to share this with the community.”
