Sweet Briar College’s Chamber and Concert choirs, as well as its eight-singer group “Octavo,” will be part of Lynchburg’s Opera on the James productions of “Suor Angelica” and “Gianni Schicchi” by Giacomo Puccini at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at E.C. Glass High School. The show also includes singers from Randolph College and Liberty University.
“The story of ‘Suor Angelica’ takes place in a convent,” said Sweet Briar voice instructor and choir director Marcia Thom-Kaley. “This production is unique for our students — not only because our choirs will appear as the offstage chorus, but because 20 of our students will also be featured on stage as the abbey nuns.”
Some of them will have solo lines, she added.
Thom-Kaley herself will also appear on stage, as will Ursula Kuhar, director of the arts management program, and vocal instructor Carol Hill.
