Three students have received recognition for their work in the Sweet Briar Theatre’s fall musical, “The Secret Garden.”

Theater program director Bill Kershner, who directed the show, entered “The Secret Garden” in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. As a result, two students have been nominated for Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship auditions, Ebet Davey ’12 for her performance as Martha and senior Corey Latta for her portrayal of Mary in the lead role. Heather McTague ’11 was nominated for student stage manager.

McTague, along with Davey and Latta and their scene partners, will compete against other nominees at the regional festival competition at Daytona State College in February. Regional winners advance to the KCACTF National Festival in Washington, which will be held in April.

Festival adjudicator Robert Stoddard of Southern Virginia University had ample praise for the entire production, from the casting and directing to Loretta Wittman’s choreography, and he singled out a number of student and community performers including Sarah Schofield ’11 as Lily, Sierra Wright ’12 as Rose and Jason DeVries as Dickon.
