Vixens bedecked in SWVHJA ribbons

Sweet Briar riders collected one reserve and two champion titles among the ribbons they took home from the Southwest Virginia Hunter/Jumper Association Annual Show, held Nov. 5-7 at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington.
First-year Sarah Hibler, riding Sweet Briar’s Cassanova, accounted for one of the Vixens’ biggest highlights, winning the championship in the Hunter Seat Medal finals.
Hibler had company though, as fellow first-year Olivia Smith earned the Best Child Rider on a Horse and came away with the reserve championship in the Children’s Hunter Division riding her horse Time Will Tell.
Jordan Fedrizzi ’11 also was a champion, riding Wallstreet Week to win the Special Adult Hunter Division. Wallstreet Week is owned by Alisa Berry ’03 and her husband, Jason, a riding instructor at Sweet Briar.
Also in the Children’s Hunter Division, Kathleen Drake ’14 a’14nd Sweet Briar’s Home for the Holidays won a hunter class and Amanda Wager ’14 placed sixth in the under saddle class on another school horse, Loki.
In addition to their Hunter Seat Medal win, Hibler and Cassanova placed second in the handy hunter over fences, fourth in the children’s hunter over fences, fourth in the SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal qualifier and seventh in the Child/Adult Hunter Classic.
Smith’s reserve championship followed a win in a children’s hunter over fences, a second in the under saddle, and fifth-place finishes in two other children’s hunter over fences classes. She also was fourth in the Hunter Seat Medal finals.
In the Adult Medal finals, junior Lauren Perhala placed fifth and sophomore Elizabeth Hansbrough was seventh.
In equitation, Alexandra Davidson ’13 rode SBC’s Oh So Fine, placing sixth in the Adult Medal Final qualifier and third in the adult equitation on the flat. Smith was fourth in the Oak Ridge Medal and first in the SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal qualifier.
Riding in the Younger Adult Amateur Hunter Division Abbey Wilson ’12 and SBC’s With Style were fifth and sixth in the younger adult hunters over fences.
Senior Erin Aufox and Sweet Briar’s Braveheart won two second-place ribbons and a sixth in three of the four over fences classes of the Younger Adult Hunter Division. Aufox and Braveheart were also fifth in the Children’s/Adult Hunter Classic.
Perhala was second in one of the Younger Adult hunter over fences classes.
Davidson rode SBC’s Oh So Fine to second place in a younger adult amateur hunter over fences, fourth in the handy hunter over fences and fifth in the adult hunter under saddle. Hansbrough took second in the adult hunter under saddle and Morganne Young ’11 was fourth on SBC’s Hattrick in the Child/Adult Hunter Classic.
In the Special Adult Hunters, Fedrizzi won both an over fences class and the under saddle class for the championship.
Among jumpers, Young was third on Love Z in the $250 Child/Adult Jumper Classic, Lindsey Eneguess ’11 and her horse Aspen were first in the level one jumper class. Jason Berry rode Aspen to win two hopeful jumper classes and was second in a level one class.
Kaitie Cartwright ’14 and her horse Echo were fourth in a level two jumper class, fourth in the Child/Adult Jumper Classic, and sixth in another level two and child/adult jumper class.
