A “First Wednesdays” event featuring readings by Sweet Briar College students will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 in the Wailes Lounge at the Florence Elston Inn & Conference Center.
The reading is sponsored by “Red Clay,” the College’s literary journal and will include poetry, fiction and non-fiction works by Sweet Briar students. Admission is free, and a reception will follow.
Students reading fiction include Melissa Hardison ’08, Emma Meador ’09 and Deb Taylor ’09; Sarah Ansani ’08 and Jessica Baker ’09 will read poetry, and Kat Alexander ’11, Melanie Sullivan ’09 and Jessica Joiner ’11 will read non-fiction works.
In addition, Liz Caldwell ’08 will read an act from her play.
The Inklings, a student literary club on campus, also will be involved in the event. They will be collecting books for the Camel Book Drive. The books will be shipped to Kenya and, as the name suggests, carried by camel to their final destinations.
Children’s books in English, as well as young adult and adult literature, are needed. Donations for shipping costs will also be accepted.
