Sweet Briar College soccer head coach, Paul Shaw, was named to the coaching staff of the United Soccer League’s Toronto Inferno. Shaw will now be adding his coaching experience to the W-League squad.
“We are delighted that Paul is joining our coaching staff. His experience and knowledge of the game are a definite asset to our club,” says Inferno head coach and owner Tony Marmo.
This past week the franchise launched its elite soccer academy for girls. In addition to training players who may one day compete for the Inferno in the United Soccer Leagues’ W-League, the staff hopes that some of the younger students may form the nucleus of an Inferno Under 16 team. That team could possibly take to the field this coming summer, competing against other Canadian and American squads in the United Soccer League’s Super Y-League. The Toronto Inferno is waiting on approval from the Ontario Soccer Association to field a Super Y-League team.
The Toronto Inferno competes in the Northern Conference of the W-League in the summer months. It features current and past Canadian National Team members as well as some of the top US-College based players.
