“Leadership for Diverse Communities”: A conversation with Dean Ian Solomon of the UVA Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy

Posted on November 12, 2020 by William Alexander

On Monday, Nov. 16, Ian Solomon, Dean of the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy will be a guest speaker at a community Zoom webinar on leadership in diverse communities.

Good leaders must be aware of and respond to the needs of the diverse communities they serve and there is no better person to talk about how to do that successfully than Dean Solomon. He is an educator, diplomat, policymaker, and businessman. Previously, he was CEO of SolomonGlobal, an advisory firm specializing in mediation, conflict management, and collaboration. He has done much to mediate the dialogue on diversity at UVA.

During his talk, he’ll share his expertise on leading in an increasingly diverse world and give personal examples of his work in South Africa as well as his time in the Obama administration, where he was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. senate and represented the United States in multilateral diplomacy and multi-stakeholder agreements. Following his presentation, there will be an opportunity for a Q&A session as well as some small group discussions.

These conversations are critically important to our community and to our world. As students of leadership, I hope Monday’s event will be meaningful for you. Please join us. Register here.
