Collections

The Sweet Briar Museum supports the academic curriculum and the cultural life of the College community by providing, for teaching and study purposes, a permanent collection of historical artifacts and memorabilia that illuminate the history of the school. The collections grow primarily through donations from alumnae and former faculty. Persons interested in giving artifacts, decorative arts, furniture, clothing, photographs or other memorabilia to the museum are encouraged to contact the museum staff.

Fletcher and Williams Family Collection

The museum’s core collections consist of the personal possessions of the Fletcher and Williams families, including furniture, musical instruments, tableware and silver, clothing, jewelry, photographs and personal mementos. The collection also includes Japanese lacquerware from the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, which Daisy Williams visited with her parents.

College Collection

Memorabilia, including class rings and club charms, graduation hoods, scrapbooks and photographs illustrate campus life and important events in the life of Sweet Briar College from the earliest students to the present.
