Partnering with Centra HealthWorks, Sweet Briar provides high quality health care to students. Our on-site nurses provide regular care and support to students for all basic health needs. Centra HealthWorks also provides a doctor for more in-depth care. Most student health needs are completely free to students.
Sweet Briar College partners with Horizon Behavioral Health to offer mental health care to students. Horizon therapists are on-site every day for scheduled appointments and offer walk-in appointments. Horizon counselors also serve on-call for after-hours emergencies. Horizon services are paid for by the student’s personal insurance. If your plan doesn’t cover behavioral health, don’t worry — Student Life will help cover the cost.
Sweet Briar College supports the spiritual practices of students from all faith traditions. Student Life, with support from a spiritual life committee consisting of faculty and staff dedicated to helping students explore their faith, sponsors events and activities that nurture spiritual life on campus.
We swim, we ride, we spin, we rally, we climb, we hike, we run. On 18 miles of trails, in the nearby Blue Ridge, in the state of the art riding barn, in our fitness center, there are so many fun ways to take care of your body and get out in nature.
Based on student interest and availability of instructors, Sweet Briar offers a variety of free fitness classes such as dance fitness, yoga and spin.
Sweet Briar’s 130-acre Rogers Riding Center ranks among the best in the country on a college campus. The 120’ by 300’ Robin S. Cramer Hall, one of the largest indoor college arenas in the nation, has a heated viewing area and sound system. The Rogers Riding Center includes: three spacious outdoor rings, one with sprinklers and lights, a covered lunging area and several teaching and schooling fields with a variety of natural obstacles.
Trips and adventures take students, faculty and staff near and far for day trips, weekend adventures and extended trips during semester breaks. Students enjoy backpacking, kayaking, rock climbing, caving, rafting, canoeing, skiing, hiking and more.
The 53,000 square-foot FAC includes the Williams Gymnasium and the Prothro Natatorium, in addition to locker rooms, aerobics, free-weight and fencing rooms. The FAC also offers students a place to gather to study or watch TV in the Robertson Recreation Lounge, catch a film or lecture in the 1948 Theater or dine in the Houston Bistro.
The Boathouse provides a scenic view of Sweet Briar’s lakes while studying on the docks or attending club events. Students enjoy spending time on the water kayaking, paddleboarding or floating in a tube.
